Thanksgiving & Shop update

knitting, lifestyle, Uncategorized

Hey friends, its 2:30am and I decided it would be a good time to blog because I get to sleep in tomorrow so why not stay up late.

Today I celebrated Thanksgiving with my husbands family and then mine in the evening. We did some shopping between parties and went back after my parents because I needed to go to Ulta; their deals are just too good to pass up! I have enough Bed Head shampoo and conditioner to last all of 2018 and added some more lipstick options to my stash. We never really do Christmas shopping for others on Black Friday just go out and have fun finding good deals. I am currently typing this post on my new Bluetooth keyboard from Best Buy and a sweet Bamboo Fineline Go is charging which I am pumped for. These tools are going to allow me more conveniecne and ease in creating and using my iPad to the fullest.

With all the hustle and bustle I haven’t really had a chance to really think about all that I am thankful for. Now that I am home and chilling I finally have the time to reflect on my life. God has given me such a wonderful life full of love and creativity. I love and adore my animals and  I am incredibly thankful that I have the honor of caring for three cats and a rabbit. It brings me so much joy caring for God’s creation. My husband is my best friend and I am thankful for his hard work, love, kindness, and so much more. I am thankful for the opportunity to work in the creative field and being around artists, they help me stay motivated to create more. I am thankful for my family who supports and loves me. I am thankful to live in Ohio, though it may bore me at times it really has so much to offer and so many wonderful people.

I have so much to be thankful for and I could go on. I do want to say thank you to those who actually read my blog posts or follow me on instagram. I love my yarn/knitting/crocheting/creative community; you inspire me to be more creative and keep working to be better. Thank you thank you thank you!

Now for an update:

I am currently connecting with a couple artist friends to create a logo and illustrations for my online shop. My shop name will for sure be Rin Knits and Stuff and will carry things I knit/crochet as well as stitch markers, jewelry, and more. I want to have a space where I can sell the things I create and I don’t want to make it one specific item. I’m working on perfecting patterns and building stock so get excited; I’m creating goals and feeling motivated to get this up and running.
I’ll talk to you guys soon! One of my goals for 2018 is to blog more consisntaly 😉

Hello again! It’s been about a month since my last post, yikes! Some day I will get more consistent with blogging and it will be great, so I’ll be working on that. Last month was filled with lots of prep for my 80’s/Unicorn themed birthday and it was a blast! I’ll share some images from the party at the end of this post.

Anyways its World Wide Knit in Public day….YAAAAAY!

It’s almost 11am so I’ll be heading out soon to visit my favorite yarn shop, Yarn Cravin’ and then I’m going to get some coffee and try and finish knitting a sock. I am working on a pair of socks, well the first one anyways, from a pattern created by the amazing Dana Gervais who specializes in sock knitting. She created a 5 day email challenge that hundreds of people participated in. My favorite part was the Facebook group she created for all of us noobs to share our progress and ask questions.  The challenge was called #sockvirgin and so far this is the best sock that I’ve ever made and I finally understand turning the heal and gussets. You can view her patterns and challenges here –> https://linkinprofile.com/knitalot924

I’m not sure what the rest of the day will hold but my husband works tonight so I might just have a date day with myself and get sushi then a movie – I’ve been dying to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I can’t be the only one who does that kind of stuff alone right?

That’s all for now just wanted to update the blog and let you know I’m still alive and knittin 😉 Thanks for reading and enjoy the images from my 25th birthday party!

If you want to keep up with me visit my Instagram. I post almost daily!

Friends and Minimalism

lifestyle, Minimalism, Uncategorized

Hey there! Hope you are having an amazing weekend. Nothing too uncomfortable to read today other than the fact I’m getting rid of over half my closet. GASP. Keep reading because I want to know your thoughts.

This weekend has been a good one, although it has gone to quickly for my liking. At least I still have Sunday, if I don’t sleep it away after staying up too late.

Friday Zach had to work so I went to hang out with my friends and their baby. We went to the Toledo Museum of Art to watch a glass blowing demonstration but we were late as usual and missed it so instead we wandered around the museum. It’s crazy how art can bring about so many different emotions. There were pieces that would make me feel extreme sadness, satisfaction, happiness, and so on.

Here are two photos of the two things I absolutely loved and would have really liked to take home.

I don’t have any deep meaning for why I like the one on the left besides I think the colors are awesome, and how beautiful it is in the midst of the chaos. The one on the right is my favorite of the two, it was so nice to look at. I really enjoyed what the artist had to say about it but it’s so late I can’t remember so maybe I’ll come back and add it in and the credit to who made these pieces.

Anyways! We kept wandering around and ended up in the auditorium where the Toledo Symphony was having their intermission and we were able to catch the last quarter of the program. It was beautiful, I hope I can see them again and actually be there for the whole concert.

After wandering the art museum we went to Spaghetti Warehouse in downtown Toledo and had a pretty gross time. Most of our silverware and cups were dirty, the food wasn’t that great, and the service was nice but a little out there. The atmosphere of the place looks so cool, there’s even a train car in the restaurant, it’s a shame we didn’t have a good time. So beware, cool looking place but not the best dining experience.

We went back to their house and I ended up spending the night because the thought of going out in the 0 degree weather and driving home made me cringe. Its been a long time since I have crashed at anyones house and it was a lot of fun. We spend the night watching John Mayer live concert videos and I got to snuggle their baby. In the afternoon we watched a documentary about minimalism. It basically confirmed my feelings about my life but I’ll get to that soon.

So the festivities continued and Zach met up with us and we ended up driving back up to Toledo to get some Chick-Fil-A and check out Best Buy…also Chick-fil-a was a much better choice than the Spaghetti Warehouse. 😉 It was a great time but now I am home and about ready for bed, but before I go I just wanted to talk about minimalism and how I want to continue simplifying my life.

I am not a die hard minimalist, nor am I going to get a tiny house, however  I do want freedom from my things. I want to be debt free, I want to focus on relationships, I want to be present and content with my surroundings. I don’t want to be owned by my things, I shouldn’t have to feel overwhelmed when it comes to doing laundry or cleaning the house because there are so many THINGS to clean. I want to feel on top of things and in control because there are too many things in life that are out of my control; my home and my things, I have control over not the other way around.

This past July we moved from a small technically 2 bedroom apartment (basically a one bedroom) to a 3 bedroom home, with a basement, living room, dining room, kitchen, and 2 bathrooms. It’s not a giant home but we definitely have plenty of room, especially compared to our apartment we lived in for 3 years. Since moving we have painted most rooms neutral colors and haven’t really done too much to decorate outside of what I already had and I like it that way. I did decorate the bare bedroom with tapestry I had and added some Christmas lights. I am quite pleased, I’m not much of an overhead lighting person, actually I HATE ceiling lights I am a lamp person 100%.

On top of decorating a little I have been cleaning hard core this week with the help of my amazing husband, Zach. I feel so refreshed when the house is clean and my closet is organized. I have finally had the chance to go through my clothes and I have filled 1 full  trash bag of just my clothes and another filled with shoes, I also have 2 giant piles of clothes in my bedroom that I want to take to Plato’s Closet tomorrow. It’s crazy that I still have 70+ articles of clothing (including pants, leggings, shirts, dresses, and pjs/activewear) left and I’m having a rough time narrowing it down any more.

The documentary on Netflix that I watched is call Minimalism and it confirmed everything I have been thinking about lately; like how I want to continue getting rid of the unnecessary clutter and  junk we have. Honestly we don’t have that much any more, we have gone through so much and have thrown out so much with moving and unpacking. There’s still a lot of room for improvement especially in the clothes department for both my husband and I. He is not so much on board with minimalism as far as the wardrobe goes but he’s been great about decluttering and living simply everywhere else in the house.

So anyways getting to the point; the documentary talked about the 333 challenge which has given me great motivation to rid myself of the clothes I never wear. Here is what the challenge is:

The idea is to only wear 33 items (including accessories) for 3 months and you store everything else out of sight.

That is CRAZY, but I think I might be crazy enough to attempt it. In fact I think that I am going to commit right now and do this. Starting Monday February 6th I’m going to put all my extra clothes that I feel I can’t get rid of out of sight. I’m not sure I can go 3 months without buy any clothes, especially with all the LuLaRoe craze but I’m going to try my best. I might fail and that will be okay at least I am making an effort to simplify my life.

If you haven’t watched the documentary yet, go watch it. I want to know what you think!

I’m excited and I hope you will be here on this journey with me to simpler life.
